From Practice To Play

The desire to innovate and create has always been a key ingredient in the work and culture at Digital Kitchen. From day one we have always found new ways to foster the entrepeneurial spirit of innovation. DK Play was born out of the desire to create a framework that would sustain that spirit and inspire participants to go beyond the expected and learn to Play.

How To Play

Playing is easy. It begins with a little imagination and a great idea. Each player is responsible to pitch their idea to a comittee of peers to get their idea sponsored. The exercise of creating a business case not only helps player learn to articulate the value and potential of their idea, but to consider the production and cost of taking a product from concept to prototype and beyond.

Playing Is Fun

Not every idea has to be boring. Ideas run the gammit from Virtual Reality storytelling to a shoe that tells you Kanye West's latest tweets.

Going from idea to prototype requires a diverse team of players. DK Play allows people to break down the siloes between expertise and discipline. Collaboration and personal skill development isn't only welcomed it's encouraged.

Ping.FM

At Digital Kitchen, our ping pong table is a studio staple and a very special place. It brings people together, sparks conversation and builds community around a playful and competitive spirit. So we created a new kind of ping pong game where not only crushing your opponent matters, but the experience is heightened by bringing your favorite musical tracks to life and on beat.

Protobooth

DK Play’s first invention quickly evolved from a scrappy setup to a seamless social experience. Protobooth, the animated GIF photobooth, was built for the DK holiday party and engineered in a weeks time. After sharing the GIFs of that disastrous night Protobooth became a hit with the press, as well as brands. So we began evolving the platform for the public.

We turned this internal experiment into a licensable product. Protobooth made a noticeable appearance at Lollapalooza to support the adidas originals booth and to give festival goers a share-worthy experience.

Culture Club

While not every DK Play project becomes the next cultural phenomenon, the spirit of DK Play creates a special sense of community and collaboration that goes far beyond just playtime.
